Meme Madness
Jul. 6th, 2009 08:35 amHeld my nose, jumped in the water and asked canadiangoddess for words she associates with me. She sent me slash, tarot, open road, ChrisandSteve.
Slash - Wow. Started reading fan fiction in the '86. My first fandom was The Sentinel. The first slash I stumbled into was about 6 months later when I read a Sentinel slash story by Legion. Talk about jumping in head first. But I was hooked. I liked the idea of not messing with the relationship dynamic of the main characters by adding outside characters as love interests, MHO. In my head I've written stories for years, my own fear kept me sharing. Finally got out of my own way, threw my hang-ups out the window, discovered I'm a little more bent than I thought, and continue to kick myself into posting what I write.
Tarot - An old friend. Started down this road in 1980 when I moved to Denver and discovered a community of people whose beliefs were like mine. A lot of life changing decisions made using Tarot. A lot of supposed friends lost because they thought Tarot was a joke, then became afraid when it wasn't.
Open Road - Something I miss alot. I don't miss performing morning and evening abultions in truckstop bathrooms, coping a squat on an I-70 exit ramp at 3am, but I miss the growl of 600 horses cruising at 90mph across the desert between Las Cruces, NM and LA. Stopping in Quartzite for quarter coffee and truck drivers are higher on the food chain than snowbirds, dawn over Hoover Dam, ass cheeks chewing the upholstery after chaining up in a snow storm over Snowqualmie Pass, bob-tailing on US 1 to Big Sur while waiting for strawberries to come in from the fields. Delivering in San Francisco a week after the big quake. Meeting people from all walks of life and hearing their stories. Mouth watering food in Louisana, ice storms while hauling temperature controlled poison across Tennessee, dust storms in Nebraska, tornadoes in Arkansas, Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma, northern lights in Montana, elk and pronghorn in Wyoming, playing golf on the Snake River in Idaho, Hurricane Hugo. Meeting Alabama, breakfasts with Pam Tillis, Trace Adkins and ZZ Top. Giant Cajun truckers that hug like they'll never see you again, because they might not. Waking up in a rest area with fog so thick you have no idea where you are because all you see is fog. Being chased by a deputy and surrounded by cops in Gallup, New Mexico because the deputy was a self-important ass.
ChrisandSteve - Resisted the lure of RPS for a long time. It felt kinda creepy until I wrapped my head around "It's Fiction, Dummy!" Always liked Christian Kane. Only knew him as an actor, didn't know he was a singer, too. When I finally broke down and snuck up on a ChrisandSteve story, I thought, "Who the hell is Steve Carlson?" Thank you google. I have RPS writers and Kane fans to thank for rekindling my interest in country music. After my mother died 9 years ago I stopped listening to country because that was her genre, then Nashville got too big for it's britches and the music became overproduced and as pouffed up as a big-haired Texas beauty queen. At the ripe old age of 51 I became a fangirl of our boys and their music. My OTP though I do like to see them with Jensen, haven't figured that one out yet, but I have fun.
Back to kicking the rust off my muse. RL job really interferes with my rich fantasy life.
